Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

High Blood Pressure at Pizza Hut

Fast-food restaurants like Pizza Hut are not recommended to dine-in if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure. High Cholesterol at Pizza Hut

Whether large, medium or small, a pizza can boost your cholesterol levels instantly. You shouldn't eat more than one slice of any pizza your order at Pizza Hut. If you're concerned with your high cholesterol, then it is wise to take your friends to Pizza Hut and share pizza among them slice by slice. You can also try pasta at Pizza Hut but ensure that you are not adding any dressing or extra cheese as you order pasta.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for High Cholesterol

Keep your pizza intake to one slice to avoid high cholesterol intake while you dine at Pizza Hut. Skip Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice as it contains a high amount of fat and the sodium levels are also very high. Avoid the desserts section completely to limit the fat and sugar intake. You can also limit yourself from ordering non-veg pizza and skip adding sides or dressing on your orders to ensure that your cholesterol is in check while dining at Pizza Hut.

This place is usually always busy....don't let that fool you into thinking that they somehow make incredible pizza. I sincerely believe they stay busy due to a lack of nearby competition from another pizza place, the closest being Mama Lucia's over on Baltimore Ave almost a mile away. This place does have outstanding service and a polite professional owner and staff. You'd be hard pressed to find a place that would treat you better, at any price point or location. They work quickly and get orders out fast, even when packed. They do have a well rounded menu that includes deli sandwiches and chicken shawarma. Yes, they do sell slices of pizza, which is a huge, huge plus in my book. It's just that their hand-tossed pizza leaves much to be desired. I'm not sure if it's the dough they have trucked in from a vendor, or the way they throw a pie in the back. I've always found it to be a bit thick, doughy, and undercooked for my tastes. If you must order pizza there, do yourself a favor and order the thin crust. For a few bucks more than a couple of slices, you can have a medium two-topping thin crust baked to your personal specifications. I will keep visiting this place for that occasional bite to eat when I'm shopping at the REI next door, but I just wish they'd improve their pizza, and/or maybe offer thin crust by the slice. This is a hole-in-the-wall dump...or so it seems. Pizza Roma actually shocked me with the flavor vs. form ratio. I was thrilled to start eating a slice of pizza, which was really cheap, and really tasty. That's all I desire from most places I dine, and it was really easy to make a cash transaction and satisfy my hunger. Pizza Roma will get the job done, if the job is hunger satisfaction. I wouldn't come here on a date, a business meeting, or a drug transaction (as you may be encroaching on territory). Its aesthetic really brings down the appeal of the shopping center (which has REI, Mom's and State Farm), but it has pretty decent food. Check it out if you like pizza. Might be worth your while.

You could really miss this place as you're driving on either side of Rhode Island avenue, but if you happen to spot the REI, it's right next to it. As the picture shows here, the sign just says "Pizza", maybe someone stole the Roma part. That was the first peculiar thing; second, it looks like this place is middle eastern owned, yet they brand their pizza as Italian...unless this place is a partnership and there is a Italian co-owner. This place is a true hole in the wall. The ambiance and decor is nothing to talk about. It looks old, and not very appealing, but I expected this. I tried the deluxe pizza here which includes almost everything on there. I can't say I loved the pizza, but I didn't hate it either. It was just okay. My preference for pizza is definitely more cheese, and this just wasn't doing it for me. I suppose this place is alright for Greenbelt. Seeing how I work in the area, I might stop by again and try their sub or gyro.

Nostalgia! This place reminds me of the good ol' college days when I could always eat a little more of their food even when stuffed. This place was everyone's favorite. They have carry out and also some tables for dining in. I recently went back to this location and got their pizzas and subs. The pizza is great, bread has a nice flavor to it, cheese is good and toppings are tasty too. Steak sub was also good, however, the bread tasted different to me, may be it's been too long and my palate has experienced more over the years. Regardless, always look forward to returning here. Customer service is friendly and efficient. As has been said before, it's in an unexpected location but definitely find this hidden gem, chances are you will be glad.

The greek salad is very good (for a gluten free option). Kids love the pizza, which used to also be a favorite of mine because the sauce is amazing. Its fast, cheap and delicious.

Best pizza in College Park in my opinion. Great Price|Good Price| Tasty| It is a win win overall.

Since I'm pretty much living at the REI next door (or at least my credit card says I am), I decided to give this pizza joint a try. After all, nothing gets you ready for a long day of hiking more than a really big portion of protein covering vegetables. Unfortunately, while a whole large pizza for dining in was big and cheap (they have a dine-in special which brings it below $10), I would come close to calling it good. The cheese was not really congealed very well and it was very soft. Even once it cooled down, it was pretty thin. We got olives on the pizza and they didn't have the salty zing I usually expect from them. In general, it was a cheesy but very bland pie. I wouldn't exactly turn it down, because who turns down pizza. But I'm not rushing to order delivery from here next time. The rest of the menu here looks very interesting though. They are possibly the only halal pizza place I have ever seen. But what I found odd was the first ingredient they offer was pepperoni. I guess you can't survive as a pizza place without offering that but it did seem like a contradiction to me. Though the pizza was lacking, the staff was very friendly. If service were a bit faster, I might even give it a fourth star. And I might start all of my hiking excursions there.

Cozy place. Decor needs an upgrade. But the food is amazing. The whole wheat subs are my favorites. Philly cheese steak or Philly chicken with everything on it... mouth watering. Been going here for a couple of years. Call ahead, Best to order over the phone as it takes around ten minutes to prepare on average. Nice combo prices. Fresh fries every time. Do not get the Buffalo wings . Not recommended.

  • Jenny W.

like some others have said, if you're not looking for it, you wont find it out of the blue, the decor is a little bit outdated, BUT the Owner and staff are great, polite and friendly, the owner knows me by name, and its always nice to see them. The food is good, and reasonably priced too. they have a combo, sub, fries and a soda, which is a great deal, and they sell pizza SLICES, which is awesome because it's only $1.50 a slice and hits the spot if you need a quick hunger fix. everything is cooked to order and has always been hot and fresh. Check these guys out, support our local businesses around here. Yes they do have busy times, but check them out, you'll go back again.

I like it. I work at Mom's right around the corner, and i usually eat lunch here. Love the cheese steak sub a lot. I haven't tried the pizza yet, but when i do i'll update this review.

Great pizza! This is a great Halal pizza place. I go out of my to stop in here when I'm working in Maryland. Compared to the other cheap crap in Maryland this is a "slice of fresh air"! The owner is awesome and the staff is great!

  • Joey T.

The pizza here is really good. I was also a big fan of their steak and cheese, which if you want you can add an egg too. I still haven't tried the dessert but I would be surprised if it wasn't as good as their food.

Chicken steak sub is a favorite of mine.

This tasted like grocery store pizza. I gave it two stars because they delivered to my hotel room - which was a plus, so that gave them the bump. I am let down by yelp - normally the reviewers are knowledgable and helpful. It seems that most have never had a decent slice of pizza. Do not go here. Do not order from here. Cardboard crust, ketchup flavored sauce, my kids even said the cheese tasted "funny". Put all of that together, overcook it, and sell it to unsuspecting people like me. Sigh.

    (2)
  • Nick S.

Pizza Roma is what you'd call good bad pizza. It's not fancy, it doesn't have organic tomatoes or aged mozzarella. It's a mess of grease in a cardboard box. The good kind.

  • Tariq S.

This is the best zabiha pizza place in the DMW. The meat lover's pizza is excellent. I would give it five stars, but a few times the pizza didn't turn out so great. The owner is very nice and the prices are very good. Bon appetit.

  • Chuq Y.

Don't get me wrong. The pizza was delicious, and the greek salad was good as well. My gripe was that we had to wait for an hour for pizza to be delivered. What gives Pizza Roma? Also, note that I had the pizza delivered, so I can't comment on the building, seating, ambiance or genuine pizza smell. We got the Large (14") Veggie Pizza with half Sausage and half Pepperoni (don't judge!). It was great. A nice amount of cheese and a slightly sweet sauce. The small greek salad was a sufficient size to split between two people along with the pizza of course. So far from what I've tasted, I think this is the best pizza in CP. I will say that I have given up my quest for NY style pizza in the DC metro area, so there's that.

Did not like the pizza at all. No taste and overcooked.

The Good: Cheap The Bad: A bit of a hole in the wall thats seen better days Located in a nondescript storefront in the back recesses of a shopping center this unassuming pizza place packs a little punch. Ordered a large pepperoni pizza with a 20oz drink for $10 from the counter. Pizza was promptly delivered in about 10 minutes by the owner. Good quality and flavor of the cheese immediately stood out, fairly saucy, and a medium thickness slightly crispy crust. A good pie for a good price and a place that I would visit again if in the area.

In a tiny shopping center, nestled into the corner (there's only 1 corner) between a chiropractor and an REI, is this place. The red neon sign says simply, "PIZZA." The window signage says, "Pizza Gyros Subs Pasta Ice Cream." You know when something seems like it's definitely going to be terrible, but then it totally blows you away and makes a fool of your assumptions? This wasn't one of those times. We got a slice of cheese pizza, and it was indeed terrible. I don't know how long it had been sitting out, but the taste and texture reminded us of frozen pizza. Ryan said he'd prefer DiGiornio's.

  • Tim B.

Three stars for the pizza and another added in for the amazingly personable owner.

  • Michael K.

Eat here quite regularly. I like their subs and I think the pizza is pretty bad. Steak and Cheese sub can be really good, even if the meat portion is skimpy. If you're lucky enough to get fresh french fries, they're fabulous. I compare their pizza to cardboard or rubber. Interior is definitely a dive and they don't give much thought to cleaning the place and the tables can remain dirty for hours before they get a quick wipe-down.

    (3)
  • Marc A.

This restaurant is remarkably dirty. Just don't look at the grill when you're ordering. It'll make you wonder when their last health inspection was. When I was there, the trash cans in the dining room were overflowing and every unoccupied table had food debris all over it. The pizza was marginal. Like others have said, it definitely tasted like it came out of a freezer.

  • AJ K.

This is my weekend stay at home and watch a movie go to place. Best pizza and really good cheese steak. If you ask them to make the cheese steak spicy, they'll really make it that way and the heat may be too much but its very good. Not exactly the best place to sit in and eat. Their chicken wings are also really good and the best plus is its all halal.

  • Izzat A.

Finally tried this place after hearing so much about it. Went here with the wife and cousin in law. Food is pretty good. I got a chapli kabob sandwich and wife got a cheesesteak. The kabobs were decent. Wife loved her cheesesteak. Also got a slice of cheese pizza that was okay. Prices were very very fair and we got a lot of food for it. Service was very friendly. All in all, it's a good place. Wouldn't go out of my way to go there but would recommend it (especially to the Halalie's out there). Prolly closer to 3.5*

  • Brian D.

Have to agree that the pizza is not objectively "good" pizza, like gourmet or anything. But the people are nice, it is a quality local food shop, and they have the best deal around - 2 years ago when I lived near there you could get a pretty big sub, fries, and a can of soda for $5.50. Worth checking out for an affordable meal. Plus you can hit up the organic grocery store or REI before you head home.

  • Jon R.

In Short. Wings were not that good. Had better. The Cheeseburger Sub was TERRIBLE-- Burnt Bread barely any cheese. I was so dissapointed. We may try the pizza later but right now not going back. Shame we really really wanted to like it.

  • Andra N.

I always dine in and order a large cheese pizza to share. It's not a fancy place but it's a humble family owned shop. The pizza is always fresh, cheesy, the bread is soft and the crust is just right. For the price, it really is an unbelievable deal! I refuse to get pizza anywhere else.

Great pizza and great price. Yummy sauce & good crust. Also great Greek salad for price. ... Except no Greek dressing. We drove a distanced from our hotel to get pizza here so that we could have a taste of local flavor. It was worth the drive.

Good food. Good price. Good variety. Good location. Halal. That's all I ask for from a pizza/sub restaurant. And Pizza Roma delivers it all.

It's not the worst pizza in the area. It might even be the best. But that's not saying much when you live in a pizzeria-poor area like College Park. Overcooked sub-par ingredients.

  • Heather J.

Good cheap tasty pizza and nice owners. Is the place a dive? Sure, but that kind of lends it a little authenticity, don't you think? The pizza is pretty much as good as it gets in the area. Better by far than any of the national chains and I think it is also better than Three Brothers, Ratsie's, or Vito's. Ledo is kind of a different style of pizza so that would be an apples and oranges comparison I'll avoid making. They have always been quick and courteous with our take out orders. The sandwiches we've tried have also been good. Also, it should be noted that these owners are really committed to being part of the community. They gave our school a fantastic deal (3 dollars less per pizza than Three Brothers would give us with their "school rate" - at that price I cannot imagine they turned much if any profit on the sale) for a special party for my daughter's class. The kids and teachers all commented on how much better the pizza was than usual and when I told them it was Pizza Roma and not Three Brothers, they all planned to become patrons in the future. Anyways, it is always great to support a local business, and it is so much easier when the food is good and the owners kind!

Roma's is certainly one of the lesser-known/more underrated food joints in College Park. While I'm not a huge fan of their pizza, their sandwiches/subs keep me coming back for more. Though I've yet to try everything on the menu, I've always had a good experience with my sandwich orders (especially the Rufus Burger sub, which has become a weekly staple in my diet). Note: Be prepared to wait a good 10-20 minutes for your food to be prepared, though, as they're usually handling a ton of carry-out and delivery orders.

Awesome pizza, awesome price! Bit of a dive but clean so who cares?

    (5)
  • Michael H.

SURPRISINGLY GOOD. I had a pizza with gyro meat and feta cheese. These guys know how to cook. The best thing about it was that it was like $12 or some unusually low price for such good quality. Garlic bread could use some butter or something though. The place was not upscale dining by any means, but who cares, it's pizza. I will definitely return!!!

I've been a PR devotee since they opened (or at least since I first heard about it in the late 90s). They have great subs, pizza, burgers, etc., and for really cheap. The quality has gone down a bit over the years but since I only eat Zabihah/Halal meat this is where I go to get my steak sub fix. My favorites are the cheesesteak (no hot peppers) and the honey dijon chicken sub. The owner is awesome and remembers his loyal customers even after they move away. :)

  • Andrea L.

Pizza Roma, also known as "that pizza place next to REI," comes off as the most nondescript pizza joint in the world when they actually serve the best slice in College Park. There is no use going to health-code violatin' Ratsies or cheese-has-been-frozen-longtime Jerry's. They offer a variety of pies, drinks and headline news yammering in the background. Though Roma is halal and as such is the pizza deliverer of choice for the MSA on campus, if you actually eat at Pizza Roma (whose overhead sign reads just "PIZZA") you are guaranteed not to run in to anyone you know.

    (4)
  • Andrew J.

Super super cheap, if I could give it half a dollar sign I would. Pizza is above average for sure, the more toppings the better. You can't beat like 4 bucks for a cheeseburger and fries that actually looks like it was made with meat. Everything is halah too so check out some of the middle eastern cuisine for something different than pizza and burgers. All the best places in College Park are hidden and this is one of them.

    (4)
  • G T.

The pizza was pretty good. My only problem was that it took them an hour to deliver it, and I live right behind them. Lesson learned. Stop being so lazy, walk the 1000 feet, and pick it up.

  • Daniel K.

I'm Pizza Roma's biggest fan. I eat here, sometimes, three times per day. I know that sounds ridiculous but I work next door and the food is good. When I'm running late for work, Abdul will whip me up a delicious veggie omelet. For lunch, I will get the Dr. Dan special, which is Chicken Parmesan over pasta with jalapenos, onions, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes. I love their meatball subs for dinner. The pizza here is absolutely killer, as well.

I've been here three times overall and have never been disappointed. Today, I got an extra large pepperoni pizza for only $9 and it was one of the better pizzas that I've had. Calzones are a must have (they are huge!). The cheesesteak that I got last fall was pretty solid too. Doesn't hurt that it's right by my house too.

I just moved to CP area and this is one of my favorite cheap but good eats. When getting food recommendations from a friend, he said "There's a good pizza shop nearby" and when asked what the name was, he paused a little too long, and finally said "I think it's just called Pizza." Well, it is officially called Pizza Roma, but like many of the other stores in the shopping center, the sign has only a description for the store is represents. I personally just call it "Pizza." -- Food: A medium two topping pizza for $7 (I forgot) can feed two people with reasonable appetites. The quality of the pizza is similar to other lower priced pizza establishments. I personally like it better than Dominoes. Wide variety of halal meats (aside: They have bacon and ham here...I am not sure if it is real bacon or a "fakin" from another halal beast. Might want to ask them first if it's an issue). For $5.25 you can get a sub and a canned drink (the drink isn't optional) or for $6.00 you get a sub, canned drink, and fries. I've only had the veggie sub, which is quite good. They grill whatever vegetables they have (the same ones they put on the veggie pizza) and don't overload it with cheese. My b/f likes the "chicken steak" and cheese sub over the regular steak and cheese, meanwhile sneaking bites from my veggie sub. It's not gourmet, but a lot of bang for the buck. They have ice cream and some house specials that I have never tried. Their breakfast menu looks dirt cheap, if I try it I will write about my experience. -- Ambience: Pizza Roma has the small-business, hole-in-the-wall feel. This place hasn't been updated since the early 90s. The menu above the counter is a little off on pricing (everything is cheaper). You order at the counter, pay up, and they bring it to your table when it's done. There are booths and tables (think sit-in Pizza hut). They do not have any public bathrooms (or none that I have seen), but you can run over to REI next door if the need arises. Sometimes sk8ter kids are hangin' out inside or people with a lot of kids. There isn't a whole lot of seating, but I have never had a problem getting a one. -- Other: They are a little slow to prepare your subs...give them about 10-15 mins unless it's empty. It'll be too hot to eat when you get it. I think the slowness is due to a large number of delivery/carry out orders. I think I was almost run over by their driver one day. Pizza by the slice appears to mellow for a while inside the counter and they reheat it when you order, which isn't that different from other "by the slice" establishments. The slices are pretty big. I would recommend getting a whole pie to experience true freshness. The owner is there often, he is always friendly and smiling. It feels good to support an awesome local business!!! -- Rating: It's not my favorite restaurant in the world, and the veggie options are typical, but great quality for the price!

The only place I'll get pizza in College Park. I come from an Italian family that owned a pizzeria in New York. We're tough critics. Pizza Roma is unequivocally the best around. And the prices are fantastic, even better for dine-in or take-out. Not in the mood for a pie? Their subs won't disappoint! And the customer service is always dependable.
